Punching the Air by Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam

From award-winning, bestselling author Ibi Zoboi and prison reform activist Yusef Salaam of the Exonerated Five comes a powerful YA novel in verse about a boy who is wrongfully incarcerated.

The BCPL and Bensenville Arts Council are proud to announce Punching the Air for the 14th annual Bensenville Reads program! Each year, the Library selects a book or author to promote reading in the community. This year, Ibi Zoboi will join us live on Zoom for a discussion about her book. Registration is required via our calendar or by phone. Limited free copies of the book will be available at the Library starting October 12, 2020. One book per family, please.

Ibi Zoboi was born in Haiti and immigrated to New York with her mother when she was four-years-old. She loves reading and writing science-fiction, fantasy, and mythology. Ibi wears lots of bright colors and is a huge fan of mangos, avocados, dry humor, long-winded storytellers, and modest skirts. She also smiles, laughs, and cries often—sometimes all at once. She lives in New Jersey with her three children, her husband, their cat, and three pet turtles.
